Post-Concussion Rehabilitation Program
Sep. 02, 2011
Sports Physical Therapy Institute is pleased to announce the
introduction of the "Return to Sport: a Post-Concussion
Rehabilitation Program." Recent research is changing our
understanding of concussions and the way they are treated. The
affects of one or multiple concussions can be long lasting and
negatively effect the athlete's quality of life. Proper treatment
is essential for the safe return to sports.
Sports Physical Therapy takes the care of all athletes seriously
and is taking a proactive role in concussion management. Many
states around the country are passing laws designed to protect the
300,000 athletes The Center for Disease Control estimates sustain a
concussion during sports-related activity each year. As a part of
the healthcare team, SPTI would like to care for area athletes
in a supervised and monitored environment where the physical
therapists have the ability to monitor blood pressure, pulse rate
and progress the athlete in a safe, symptom-free manner.

Our licensed physical therapist will evaluate
and assist the athlete safely through the rehabilitation
process for a complete and safe recovery. Sports Physical Therapy
has developed a program designed to alleviate the symptoms of the
athlete who has sustained a concussion. The post -traumatic
effects can include cognitive (difficulty concentrating, fogginess,
memory deficits) and somatic (headache, dizziness, nausea)
symptoms, all of which will be addressed during evaluation and
treatment.
The therapists at SPTI will work closely with the athlete,
parents, treating physician, athletic trainer, and school nurse, to
ensure the athlete is gradually returned to his or her sport in a
safe and effective manner.
If you have any questions regarding our program please feel free
to contact our office at T: (609) 419 - 0455 and ask to speak to
one of our therapists or e-mail us at kaity@sportspti.com.
